Congratulations on the newest addition to your family! Welcoming a new baby is exciting, but also filled with lots of new emotions and unique challenges. Many parents feel stressed, tired, and aren’t sure where to turn for help in the early days. You aren’t alone.

The Newborn S.O.S. service is designed to help parents troubleshoot life with a newborn. You will have the chance to learn new skills via hands-on, in-home support from an experienced ‘baby coach’ - with over 20 years of experience caring for children.

Newborn S.O.S. Services Include:

  • One (1) 3 hour in-home visit that is 100% tailored to your family, your baby, and your needs.

    • This session will help you by applying new skills & troubleshooting your questions/concerns in real time with your new baby. This session doesn’t include formal classroom-style learning like the other ‘classes’ offered by Bean Family Wellness.

  • The topics you can receive assistance with at this visit vary from family to family depending on your questions / concerns. It can include hands-on demos, troubleshooting, as well as tips and tricks for common topics of interest, such as:

    • Soothing Your Baby (e.g. learn how to manually swaddle your baby)

    • Sleep Routines (which can be started in the early weeks) & How to Improve Sleep

    • Bathing Techniques (such as the 1st bath), Dressing, Oral Care, and other Baby Care Topics

    • Infant Feeding / Breastfeeding Check-in (to ensure things are going well)

      • Practical help with Setting up a Nursing / Breastfeeding / Pumping Station

    • Diapering, including disposable and/or cloth diapers

    • Baby-wearing (“The Art of Holding Your Baby in a Baby Carrier”)

    • Encouraging Bonding & Attachment for Both Parents & Baby

    • Learning your Baby’s Cues for Hunger, Sleep, Discomfort, …

    • Realistic Expectations specific to Normal Infant Development

    • Baby Safety Discussions such as home safety, car seats, reducing the risks of SIDS, etc.

    • Troubleshooting ‘Baby Gear’

    • Parental Adjustment to Life with a Baby for both parents, including Mental Health and Self-care

    • Establishing Needs & Expectations, and Enhancing Open Discussion between Parents

    • Referrals to community resources for additional support

    • And, anything else you are struggling with!

Fee: $200 + gst (3-hr session)

Need more help?
Ask about how to add on additional ‘Baby Coach’ / Postpartum Doula hours, available for a reduced fee when you sign a doula service agreement for multiple sessions for your postpartum journey. An initial Newborn S.O.S. Session is required for families to access Postpartum Doula Services with Bean Family Wellness (Ilissa Mistry), and is subject to availability.

Ilissa Mistry has a Bachelor’s Degree in Family Social Sciences from the University of Manitoba, focusing on growth & development, early childhood, parenting related topics, and family dynamics. She has over 20-years of experience caring for children including working as a private nanny, in childcare centres, as a birth doula for over 10 years, is a parent to 2 children including a full-term baby and a premature baby. In addition, she has specialized training in breastfeeding (Certified Breastfeeding Specialist), is a Perinatal Educator, and has worked with thousands of parents during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.
